A Stroll Through Time: Discovering Bermondsey Street Antiques Market

A Hidden Gem for Antique Lovers

If you’re into antiques, vintage curiosities, or just love a good old-fashioned wander, Bermondsey Street Antiques Market is a must visit. Full of stories, character, and hidden treasures, it’s a must-visit for collectors and casual browsers alike.

As a local myself, this is one of the first places I started to buy antiques and getting to know the dealers who pitch up here every week come rain or shine.

Getting There: A Stroll from London Bridge

Start your day at London Bridge Station, and from there, take the scenic 15-minute walk down Bermondsey Street. It’s not just a route—it’s part of the experience.

This charming street is lined with independent coffee shops, art galleries, boutiques, and restored warehouses that give it a stylish, lived-in feel.

Stop for Coffee at Bermondsey Street Deli

Halfway down, take a break at Bermondsey Street Deli. Grab a rich, locally roasted coffee and your choose from a huge selection of sweet or savoury treats. I'm a big fan of their muffins but really you can't go wrong here with anything you pick!

Quick Culture Hit: White Cube Gallery

Just a stone’s throw from the deli, you’ll find the White Cube Bermondseya sleek, contemporary art gallery housed in a converted warehouse. Entry is free, and the exhibitions rotate regularly, so there’s always something fresh to see.

🛍️ The Market: What to Expect

Located in Bermondsey Square, the antiques market sets up every Friday from 6am to 2pm (though most of the action happens before noon).

Despite its small size, the market is packed with serious dealers and fascinating finds, and the atmosphere is delightfully low-key. No tourist traps here—just proper antiques and good conversation.

🧳 Meet the Dealers

Here are just a few of the characters you might meet:

  • Gill’s Silver & Ceramics
Beautiful Georgian silverware, Victorian teacups, and porcelain that tells a story.

  • Peter’s Curiosities
Vintage cameras, old maps, and rare scientific instruments. Great for decorators or conversation pieces.

  • Linda’s Linen & Lace
Romantic French textiles, embroidered pillowcases, and lace tablecloths that feel straight out of Provence.

  • James the Clock Man
A clock restorer with decades of experience. If it ticks or chimes, James probably has one for sale.

💡 Pro Tips

  • Arrive early. The best pieces often go before 9am.

  • Cash is king. Some dealers accept cards, but cash gets you better deals.

  • Chat with the dealers. They’re full of stories and happy to talk shop.

  • Don’t be afraid to haggle (politely!).
