A burr walnut and brass stationary box made by Charles Asprey of Bond Street around 1850, with matching blotter.

This is a fine example of the period with the original makers plaque inside (inside the box) dating the item to around the time of the Great Exhibition of 1851.

Asprey & Co started life as a silk printing business in Surrey 1781. They went on to become a well known manufacturer of luxury goods and opened a store on Bond Street in 1847. In the 20th Century they began to make and sell silver and jewellery. Today they are known as one of the most prestigious retailers in the UK, if not, the world.

Condition: Good but with notable signs of wear to the brass detailing (probably overcleaned over time). The inside fabric lining of the box could be fixed or replaced to the buyers taste. The condition is reflected in the price.
