A nineteenth-century hand-carved fruitwood panel, executed in high relief. The composition features a mythological fish encompassed by acanthus foliage and a ribbon-tied motif.

Length 22 cm · Width 1.5 cm · Height 29.5 cm

The specific artisan or workshop responsible for this piece remains unrecorded, as was common for decorative woodcarvings of the nineteenth century. Fruitwood—such as pear, apple, or plum—has long been favoured by carvers for its fine, dense grain and smooth texture, allowing for intricate detail and high-relief carving. Works by unidentified period craftsmen are valued by collectors for the exceptional quality of the hand carving, the warm natural patina of the timber, and the enduring appeal of traditional sculptural motifs.

Generally good - note the large crack running through the right hand side. No detraction from the item's appearance.
