An ornately carved pair of candlesticks made in Ireland from the preserved wood entombed in the peat bogs for thousands of years.
In the Victorian era businesses grew carving jewellery and keepsakes from this dark, almost black, hardened wood. This coincided with the neo gothic fashion of the time which is reflected in this piece.
Bog oak pieces are uniquely Irish tying to the history and heritage of the country. It also makes this wooden material one of the rarest in the world due to its natural preservation for thousands of years under the land.
This is for a pair; however, note that one of the candlesticks is missing a few of the 'beads' at the top (see close-ups.) This is reflected in the price, and in total, does not really affect the look of the pieces.
