Maltby (1936-2020), a former student at the Royal College of Art, studied under Edward Folkard and William Newland, and went on to become one of Britain’s most innovative studio potters. He is renowned for creating sculptural ceramics that blend figurative elements, abstraction, and functional forms, often featuring intricate textures and imaginative surfaces. He apprenticed under David Leach for two years before setting up his own studio near Crediton in Devon.
This piece carries Maltby’s impressed mark on the base -see photos.
