A signature Totem Lamp from the well known maker Bernard Rooke (B 1938) with its original shade. Bernard Rooke studied at Ipswich School of Art and Goldsmiths and eventually went on to set up a studio in London in 1960 with Alan Wallwork. At this time there was a movement towards progressive design and Bernard Rooke found a balance between practicality and design with his lamps & other works being popular to this day.
Bernard Rooke remains one of the most influential modern day ceramic artists and his pieces have been sold in some of the most reputable retailers and can be found in important collections across the world
Early pieces such as this were fashioned by hand using coils and blocks giving each lamp its own individual style. Stamped to the side ROOKE
Dimensions of base in cm (approx)
Height: 53
Width: 18
Depth: 14
Height including shade: 117
Condition: Good. The wiring works but it may need to be rewired at some point and we recommend this is carried out locally to meet all needs and necessary regulations. The lampshade has some wear and tear consistent with age but does not necessarily take away from its appearance.
