Tôleware refers to japanned and hand-painted sheet-metal objects produced by specialized workshops across Britain and continental Europe during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Rather than denoting a single maker, the term represents a distinct tradition of decorative metalwork celebrated for its rich lacquered grounds, gilded borders, and intricate botanical motifs. Today, nineteenth-century tôleware remains highly regarded by collectors for its charming synthesis of practical utility, vibrant coloration, and classic Regency period design.
Good condition with some minor paint flaking on the base of the coasters.
