This large solid brown and green handcrafted stoneware vase with lugged handles was made by renowned British studio potter Trevor Corser (1938–2015) for the historic Leach Pottery in St Ives, Cornwall. Featuring Corser’s signature earthy glaze and strong, functional form, the piece is finished with makers’ stamps, marking it as an authentic example of one of Britain’s most influential pottery traditions. It's got a nice, substantial weight and hand feel.
Trevor Corser joined Leach Pottery the 1960s, training under Bernard Leach and other leading potters of the era. He became its lead thrower in 1981, producing work celebrated for its balance of utility and beauty, rooted in both Japanese and English craft traditions.
This particular design is estimated to come from the 1980s-1990s when he was established in his style and was producing pieces such as this with complex glazes and layered ash effects breaking into lighter tones.
Founded in 1920 by Bernard Leach and Shoji Hamada, Leach Pottery is regarded as the birthplace of British studio pottery. Its functional yet artistic wares combine Eastern and Western influences and have inspired generations of potters worldwide.
